Quirigua

Quirigua is located in the Department of Izabal in Guatemala.  It is a three and a half hour drive from the Capital City of Guatemala.  Quirigua is a small archeological site that contains the tallest stelae of the Mayan world.  Quirigua was dominated by Copan which is just 50 kilometers away.  In 737 things came to a clash with Copan.  Cauc Sky, the leader of Quirigua captured Eighteen Rabbit who was Copan's Ruler.  This was the final break with Copan and Quirigua became the strongest influence in the Motagua Valley.
